Kevin Richard, Founder
Kevin Richard, founder of Cambridge Craftsman, is not your typical general contractor.
His work is rooted in a passion for the Arts & Crafts design movement and the artistry and precision of Japanese joinery masters. It’s evident in everything he designs and builds, from daybeds in exotic hardwoods to bespoke mantels, garden gates and mission furniture.
Kevin’s craftsmanship is best reflected in his success restoring historic homes, returning architectural detailing to its original splendor. His vision for preserving decorative elements and his commitment to sustainable building materials drive the quality of every project.
No matter the undertaking, from bike sheds and pergolas to built-ins and build-outs, Kevin’s dedication, leadership, and talents have had a lasting impact on his team and clients alike.
His talent goes back decades. Kevin grew up in the western Finger Lakes region of New York, where he honed his fine carpentry skills and developed a lifelong passion for woodworking. After earning his MBA at Suffolk University and building a successful career in software and higher education, he brought that expertise full circle, transitioning in 2018 to work full-time as a general contractor and launching Cambridge Craftsman.
For over 35 years, Kevin has called Cambridge home. You may see him running the Fresh Pond loop or on the mat at Down Under Yoga. Need help identifying a tree or comparing wood grain characteristics? Ask Kevin — he’ll likely have the answer.

“Kevin Richard and his team restored this 3-story wraparound porch at the back of our Victorian building, recreating and actually improving the architectural details in keeping with the style of the home. The work included some significant structural replacement and reinforcement from weather damage and rot…if I had to do the project all over again–and for any similar project–I would call Cambridge Craftsman. Great job!”
